"Hopeful Baby Blog" is not grammatically correct, but it is descriptive ... as my (traditionally heterosexual, slightly neocon but not whacked-out theocon) husband and I continue on our hopeful quest -- first to become parents, now to remain marginally sane while being parents. Featuring: Brand-new twin boys, courtesy of our second round of IVF (achieved with our own eggs and sperm, despite our geriatric ages)!

Call me a late bloomer. Around the beginning of 2005, I finally faced the fact that if I remained childless, I'd never forgive myself. After a good bit of discussion, my husband and I embarked on our journey, seeking a child or children by whatever means possible. We travelled the very difficult IVF path, since I found it hard to let go of the biological imperative to produce my own child (although the Biological Imperative, annoying creature that it is, decided not to make itself known to me until I was well past the age when most smart women have already had the kidlets. Thanks a heap, BI!). Location: Northern California. Pets: Six cats, all indoor. Husband: one. Politics: 9-11 Republican -- or call me a hawkish liberal, if you will, since that fits a bit better. Children: Gus ... and Sam. HALLELUJAH!

My little one ADORES carrots and pears. When she was Gus's age she was happy to eat carrots and pears for every meal.
Nowadays I try and make sure I always have cooked carrot sticks on hand when I'm out and about. She likes them better than sweet biscuits!
